Choosing a Natural Gemstone
Why we are drawn to natural gemstones with character, depth, and a beauty that cannot be exactly repeated.
BY THE DIMIRA JOURNAL · · 4 MIN READ

A natural gemstone begins its life long before it reaches a jeweler's bench. It forms slowly, deep in the earth, shaped by heat, pressure and the minerals around it. That is why no two stones are ever quite the same.
Character over perfection
Many of the stones we love carry small signs of their history: a soft play of colour, a fine inclusion, a shade that shifts as the light moves. To us, these are not flaws. They are what make a gemstone feel alive, and they are why a piece of DIMIRA jewelry is truly yours.
What to look for
Colour comes first. Look at a stone in daylight and in warm indoor light, and choose the one that speaks to you. Then look at its sparkle and depth: a well-cut stone returns light from within. Finally, think about how you will wear it. Rings meet the world every day, while earrings and pendants are more protected.
A few of our favourites
- Opal, for its shifting play of colour, different in every stone.
- Peridot, a fresh garden green that glows in sunlight.
- Amethyst, from soft lilac to deep violet.
- Citrine, warm golden light in a stone.
- Tanzanite, a rare blue-violet that changes with every angle.
Set by hand
Once a stone is chosen, it is set by hand into sterling silver plated with 18K gold. The setting is designed around the stone, so its character stays at the heart of the piece.
